Zero Touch - FAQ's.png

How do other routers compare to MCG’s Zero Touch?

Intelligence.

Other routers let the device decide where to connect and at what frequency. MCG’s Zero Touch has intelligence built in, so the router manages how devices connect to make sure all get the best experience.

MCG’s Zero Touch offers both 2.4 and 5 GHz spectrums, so each device can connect in a manner that is most advantageous to it.

MCG’s Zero Touch also has twice as many antennas and significantly more power and processing capability than your current router. It’s also designed to be located centrally on the main floor of the home to help optimize coverage.

How does Wi-Fi work?

Wi-Fi uses radio waves to send and receive signals from your wireless router. These radio waves connect your devices to the internet. Wi-Fi transmits at frequencies of 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz. Generally, the faster the frequency, the faster the data transmission.

MCG’s Wi-Fi is a dual band device, offering both 2.4 GHZ and 5GHz Wi-Fi frequencies. If you don't know what that means, that's fine, because MCG’s Wi-Fi takes care of that for you.

Unlike some routers that have two separate Wi-Fi networks (one for the 2.4GHz band and another for the 5GHz band) or older routers with just a 2.4GHz band, MCG’s Wi-Fi works to select the band that will deliver the best performance for your device.

What is a wi-fi extender?

A Wi-Fi extender connects with your router to extend your internet signal into rooms that are Wi-Fi dead zones or receive weak signals due to walls, furniture obstructions or general spacing.

What is a Mesh network?

A mesh network uses multiple access points that communicate with each other to give your whole home seamless Wi-Fi coverage. A mesh network can provide you with further reach than you’d get with a single traditional router.

A mesh network may be the best solution if you are needing to cover a home of 3,000 square feet or larger, specifically if you experience dead zones in your home that are far from the main router. These are also recommended for smaller homes with obstructions like metal-framed walls or metal and glass doors.

What is Wi-Fi Interference?

Interference is ‘noise’ that impacts Wi-Fi coverage and speed of the network. It can come from other Wi-Fi networks, microwave ovens, baby monitors, Wi-Fi connected doorbells and other devices. And, interference changes based on a wide variety of factors.

MCG’s Zero Touch will change frequencies (2.4 or 5 GHz) or channels (each frequency has a number of segmented channels to use) with each device to optimize the connection.

Older or inexpensive routers don’t have the ability to do this, instead they will try to ‘talk louder’ with their Wi-Fi signal, which worsens the interference problems. If you have been in a gathering with a lot of people talking in a small room, where you need to talk louder to be heard…which makes others talk louder to be heard…you get the concept of Wi-Fi interference.
